How to use table view for your volumetric layers

Learn how to review, search and export your volume, tonnage and cut/fill results — as a CSV or a branded PDF report.

Table view turns your volumetric layers into a structured, spreadsheet-style table at the bottom of your map. Instead of clicking each stockpile one at a time, you can see every measurement side by side, sort and search across them, and export the whole set in one go.

Table view shows you:

  • volume results — total, cut, fill and net volume for each layer

  • base area and the base method used for the calculation

  • the surface layer (DEM) each volume was calculated against

  • material, density and tonnage, where a material has been assigned

  • exports as a CSV for your own analysis, or a branded PDF report ready to send to a client


When to use table view for volumetrics

  • You've measured multiple stockpiles and want to compare them in one place rather than clicking through each one.

  • You need to check your work — spotting a pile calculated against the wrong DEM or with the wrong base method is much faster in a table than on the map.

  • You're building a production or inventory report and need the numbers in a spreadsheet.

  • You want a branded, client-ready PDF of your volumes without leaving the map.

  • You've run AI Detect – Stockpile and have dozens or hundreds of volumes to review at once.


Step-by-step: opening and using table view

1. Select what you want to see

Table view works on a single volume or a whole folder.

  • A single volumetric layer — select the layer in the Layer Panel.

  • A group of volumetric layers — select the Volumetric Layer Folder containing them.

Tip: Folder level is almost always what you want. It gives you every stockpile in one table, which is the view you'd actually put in front of a site manager.

2. Open table view

Click the Table Icon in the Toolbox on the right-hand side. The table opens along the bottom of your screen.

3. Read your results

Each row is one volumetric layer, with columns for:

Column

Layer name

The name of the volumetric annotation

Total volume

The full calculated volume

Cut volume

Material above the base surface

Fill volume

Material needed to reach the base surface

Net volume

Cut volume minus fill volume

Base area

The plan area of the polygon at the base surface

Base method

Linear Fit, Lowest Point, Fixed Elevation or Base DEM

Surface layer

The DEM the volume was calculated against

Material

The assigned material and its density

Tonnage

Volume multiplied by the material's density

Material, Density and Tonnage appear once you've assigned a material to a volume. Volumes without a material show volume only. See [How to calculate stockpile tonnage in Birdi].

Tip: Scan the Base method and Surface layer columns before you export. A stockpile calculated against the wrong DEM, or with Lowest Point on sloping ground, is the most common cause of a volume that looks wrong — and it's obvious at a glance in the table.

4. Search your table

Use the Search Bar in the table view to filter by layer name or attribute value. Useful when you've got a large AI Detect output and want just the piles matching a naming convention — searching sand pulls up every layer named for that product.

5. Export as a CSV

Use the Export option in table view and choose the CSV export.

Your CSV opens in Excel, Google Sheets or any spreadsheet tool, with all the same columns — including material, density and tonnage. This is the export to use when you're reconciling against weighbridge records, building your own production tracker, or feeding numbers into a client's template.

6. Or export a branded PDF report

With your folder or single layer open in table view, click Export and choose Export annotation report as PDF.

Birdi generates a branded report — cover page with your workspace logo, a map overview, headline stats, a full measurement summary table and per-annotation detail pages. It appears as the top layer in your layers tree when it's ready, where you can download it or move it into a folder.

Changing units

Table view and both exports use your workspace's measurement system. To switch between metric and imperial, or change the unit a measurement displays in, open the Settings menu — and do it before you export, since reports and CSVs capture the units set at the time.


Best practice tips

  • Name your layers properly. Sand 20mm — pad 3 is far more useful in an exported table than stockpile 7. Rename before you export, not after.

  • Assign materials first. Tonnage only appears in the table and the PDF if a material is set. Shift-select your volumes and apply the material in bulk before exporting.

  • Check the table before you send the report. The table is your QA step — it's where a wrong DEM or an odd base method shows up.

  • Export at folder level. One table, one CSV, one report, covering the whole survey.

  • Set your units before exporting. Both exports are point-in-time.

  • Re-export after recalculating. Recalculating a volume overwrites the previous result, and existing exports don't update — regenerate them.
