Birdi 2.0 is designed to handle a wide variety of geospatial data formats, giving you the flexibility to upload, process, and visualize everything from imagery and 3D models to reports and video.
Below is a guide to what’s currently supported:
🗺️ Raster & Orthophoto (1 (grey), 3 (RGB) or 4 bands (CMYK).)
GeoTIFF (.tif / .tiff) – For orthophotos, elevation models, hillshades
ECW (.ecw) – High-compression raster imagery
JPG / JPEG (.jpg / .jpeg) – For annotated or standalone aerial images
RAW (.raw) – Supported for advanced image processing
These formats are visualized directly on the map view.
🗂️ Vector Data (12mb limit)
Shapefiles (.zip with .shp, .shx, .dbf, .prj)
KML (.kml) – Commonly used for boundaries and flight paths
GeoJSON (.geojson) – Lightweight and web-friendly vector overlays
DXF (.zip with .dxf, .prj) – Supported if georeferenced
Formats like .dwg, .dgn, and DXF files without a .prj file are not yet supported for visualization. You can convert these to shapefiles to upload.
🏔️ Point Clouds (2GB limit)
LAS (.las)
LAZ (.laz)
Classified LAS (.las)
View and interact with dense 3D point cloud data in Birdi's advance 3D viewer.
🧱 3D Models
3D Tiles (.json/.b3dm) – Used for tiled mesh rendering in the map view
OBJ / FBX (.obj / .fbx) – Accepted, but not yet visualized in the map interface
LAS (.las) – Doubles as a point cloud format
⚠️ OBJ and FBX models will be supported in the map view in future updates. At present, these will appear as non interactive layers in our map ready to download.
📹 Images & Video
JPG / JPEG / PNG – Supported for use within maps and reports
360° imagery – Compatible for immersive image review
MP4 / MOV – Upload and play back within your project or site
Birdi supports GORE (Georeferenced Oriented Imagery) — if your imagery includes GORE metadata, it will automatically display as pins on the map, linked to the correct view angle and location.
⚠️ If your images aren't GORE-enabled, don’t worry — you can still view thumbnails, open individual files, and download them from within your map or mission.
📝 Reports & Documents
PDF (.pdf)
Word (.doc / .txt)
Excel (.xls / .csv)
Used for storing and referencing capture logs, inspection data, and team reports.
🌏 Vector & Basemap Layers
WMTS / WMS layers – You can add external basemaps and layers to your Birdi maps by entering a tile service URL.
Useful for cadastral, topographic, or environmental overlays.
Birdi supports no-authentication WMTS/WMS URLs — you can link directly to services that don’t require login credentials or API tokens.
If your service requires authentication, please contact our team to discuss integration options.
