Birdi's Volumetric Tool is designed for precise volume calculations of terrain, stockpiles, and land features. This guide explains how to use the tool, interpret the results, and choose the appropriate calculation methods. At minimum you will need up upload or process a DEM in order to use the volumetric tool.

1. Add a Volumetric Layer

  • From the Add Layer dropdown menu, select add a volumetric layer.

  • This creates a new group or folder in your Layer Panel called ‘Volumetric Layer’ (you can rename this at any time).

  • We recommend turning off the orthophoto layer and using one of the hillsides

2. Select the polygon tool

  • Select the polygon tool and draw around your area

  • If your polygon appears outside of the volumetric layer you can drag and drop it into the folder

3. Access Volumetric Layer Toolbox.

  • Select the polygon from your Layer Panel to open the Volumetric Layer Toolbox.

  • Select your calculation type

  • Select a base layer (This should be one of the DEM's in the map)

  • Select calculate
