To export your map and annotations for print (A3 or larger) you will need to download and use QGIS (It’s free) as you will want to ensure you have been able to adjust the settings for print (PNG at 300dpi).

If you're looking to create a PDF report (A4) of all of your markups with measurement details, jump over to How to use Birdi’s annotation report to learn about our annotation report.

Download and install QGIS

Once you have QGIS installed you can follow the below steps to create a printable map:

  1. Navigate to your Birdi map

  2. Download your orthophoto

    1. Go to Media > Tick the Orthophoto > Download as zip

  3. Download you annotation

    1. Go to Annotation > Click … > Download as a shapefile

  4. Next open QGIS

  5. Create a new project

    1. Select ‘add data source’ in the top left

    2. Select vector

    3. Select … next to source

    4. Add the zip file you downloaded for the annotation

    5. Select add layers on the next popup

  1. Select Raster

    1. Select the …

    2. Add the .tiff file that you downloaded (This is the orthophoto)

    3. Select add

  2. You will see the orthophoto appear behind the box

  3. Close the popup box

  4. In the layers tab click and drag the Orthophoto to sit under the annotation

  1. Edit annotations

    1. You can update to show the label of each annotation set

    2. You can update the colour via the style selection if needed

  1. Save your project

  2. You will have a final output that looks similar to the below:

  1. The final step is to export it for print

    1. Select project

    2. Select import / export

    3. Select Export as PNG

    4. Set your ratio, DPI and size

    5. Select Save

This will export a PNG to your designated folder that you will be able to print.
