To get started you will need to have a mission with data and requested processing into outputs. Contours are only available on our Team plan and you can easily upgrade from within your account.

To visualise contour files from Birdi in QGIS, you can follow these steps:

  1. Login into your Birdi account and navigate to the mission you have processed

  2. Navigate to the media tab from the Map View

  3. Filter your outputs to vectors

  4. Select all and download the files

  5. Next, launch QGIS and start a new project.

  6. In the main menu, go to "Layer" -> "Add Layer" -> "Add Vector Layer" to import your contour files.

  7. In the "Data Source Manager" dialog, click the "..." button next to the "Source" field to browse for your contour files. Select the contour files you want to import (usually in a shapefile format, with .shp extension).

  8. Click "Add" to add the contour layer(s) to your project. The contour layer will be displayed in the Layers Panel.

  9. Now, you can style the contour layer to visualize the contours. Right-click on the contour layer in the Layers Panel and select "Properties."

  10. In the Layer Properties dialog, go to the "Symbology" tab.

  11. By default, the contour layer may be displayed with a single symbol or line style. You can change the symbology to make the contours more visually appealing and informative.

  12. Choose a suitable symbol or line style for the contours by selecting an option from the "Symbol layer type" drop-down menu. For example, you can select "Simple line" to display contours as solid lines, or choose "Categorized" to assign different colors to contours based on attribute values.

  13. Adjust the line width, color, and other symbol properties as desired.

  14. If your contour layer has attributes (e.g., elevation values), you can use them to define the contour colors. In the Layer Properties dialog, select the "Categorized" option from the "Symbol layer type" drop-down menu.

  15. Select the attribute field that represents the contour values from the "Column" drop-down menu.

  16. Click the "Classify" button to generate categories for the contour values.

  17. Adjust the colors and other properties for each category by double-clicking on them and modifying the settings.

  18. Click "Apply" to see the preview of the contour visualization.

  19. Once you're satisfied with the contour styling, click "OK" to apply the changes and close the Layer Properties dialog.

  20. You can then export your amended file as a tiff and upload it into your Birdi mission.

Example:

The contour layer will now be displayed with the chosen symbology, allowing you to visualize the contours in QGIS. You can also adjust the layer order, add other layers, and perform further analysis or mapping tasks within your project.
