With Birdi you can visualise your 3D model (Pointcloud) in our cloud viewer. Our viewer is currently on a trial basis and you can contact us via chat and request access. It will later be part of our paid platform features (Team Plan or higher).

Note: Our cloud viewer is currently restricted to 5GB.

This article will take you through the basics of the viewer to get up and running.

How to access the viewer

To access the viewer you will need to ensure you have requested a pointcloud during processing.

Once your data has been processed, navigate to the mission page:

  1. Open the media tab

  2. Filter by pointcloud

  3. Click the thumbnail of the file

  4. View pointcloud (If this is the first time you are rendering the model it may take some time)

  5. Once loaded you can interact with your data in 3D

Note: (Annotation are not saved between sessions, ensure you take your insights, measurements ect down at this time). This feature is still in development and will be improved in the future.

Measurements

The measurement tools consist of a set of 6. Measurements are performed by left clicking on the desired points and for some tools right clicking is needed in order to terminate the process.

Angle

This tool is designed to measure the three-dimensional angle formed by the lines connecting three points. To initiate a measurement, simply click on the angle icon and then left-click on each of the three points. The measurement process will automatically conclude upon selecting the third point. For more details, you can select this element under the "scene" section to access additional information.

Point

With this tool, you can easily highlight a point of interest and view its XYZ coordinate. To get started, simply click on the point icon and select the desired point. The tool will automatically display the point's coordinate. For additional information, you can access the element under the scene section.

Distance

With this tool, you can measure the three-dimensional distance between a series of points by clicking on the distance icon and selecting two or more desired points. Right-click to complete the measurement. You can also find additional information, such as the total length, by selecting this element under the scene section.

Height

The height tool is used to measure the vertical distance between two points in 3D space. To use this tool, click on the height icon and then click on the two points you want to measure. The height measurement will be automatically calculated and displayed. You can find additional information about the measurement by selecting this element in the scene section.

Area

The area measurement tool allows you to calculate the horizontal area enclosed by a polygon. To use it, select the area icon and then click on the points that define the polygon (at least three). Right-click to complete the measurement. You can view additional information about the measured area by selecting the element in the scene section.

Height profile

The Height Profile tool allows you to create a 3D height profile along a line on the model. To use the tool, click on the Height Profile icon, then select the desired points on the model to form a line (two or more points). Once you've selected the points, right click to finish the measurement.

You can access additional information and options, such as "Show 2D Profile," by selecting the Height Profile element in the scene section.

Navigation

The navigation tools consist of a set of 4.

Earth Control

To navigate Earth Control, use the mouse's left button to move the model horizontally, the mouse wheel to zoom in and out, and the right button to orbit the model around its anchor point on the ground.

Fly control

To control the camera in Fly mode, use the keyboard and mouse. Press "W" and "S" keys to move the camera forward and backward, respectively, in the direction it is facing. Use "A" and "D" keys to move the camera left and right, respectively. The "R" and "F" keys move the camera up and down.

The mouse left button changes the direction of the camera. To zoom in and out, use the mouse wheel, and to move the camera along the XYZ axis, use the right mouse button.

You can control the speed of these movements by using the sliding control. In Fly mode, the camera moves as if in a bird's eye view.

Orbit Control

To orbit the model, use the mouse's left button. Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out, and the right button to move the model along the XYZ axis.

Full extent

Full extent button restores the model view.

Scene

The Scene section displays a file tree containing all the scene elements. Elements are arranged in groups. Each element under these groups can be selected to get further information or to control its properties.
