Overview
Styling and customizing your uploaded vector data in Birdi is a quick and straightforward process. Follow these steps to rename layers, add descriptions, adjust styles, and modify attributes.
Open the Layer toolbox:
Upload your vector layer (see this article for help with this step)
Once your layer is uploaded, open the Layer toolbox by selecting the desired layer from the Layers panel.
Rename the annotation:
Click on the layer name in the Layer toolbox.
Type in the new name and press Enter to confirm.
OR: You can double click or right click on the layer from the Layer panel
Customize and style your annotation by type
Click on the Style tab in the Layer toolbox.
From here, you can adjust the following
Fill colour: Select a color that best represents your layer. Your layer will automatically be assigned a random colour.
Line weight and border colour: Select a border thickness and colour to enhance the boundaries of your layer.
Opacity: Modify the transparency of the layer to enhance visibility and layering.
Style: Change the annotation style to match your project’s needs, for example a full line or dashes.
Style by Field (Metadata)
You can also style your layer based on the data within it. This is great for visualising differences in numerical values — like height, area, or volume.
To do this:
In the Style tab, select ‘Style by field’.
Choose a numerical field from your layer’s metadata.
Select a colour preset — or customise the colours to suit your project.
Add, remove, or adjust the data bands as needed.
Click Apply to update your layer.
✅ Note: Styling by field currently supports numerical fields only. More data types are coming soon!
View Layer Attributes (Table view)
Click on the small Table icon in the style panel.
This opens a table where you can view and edit the layer’s attributes.
